Hiawatha Real Estate Market
Hiawatha boasts almost 3,000 housing units, most of them single-family homes in its real estate market. About 21 percent of the housing stock is comprised of buildings with more than 4 units. More than half of the neighborhood’s homes were built in 1939 or earlier and most are owner-occupied.
The entry-level homes on the market typically include charming 1920s bungalows, some restored and some in need of TLC. Homes along the river are, naturally, among the most expensive in Hiawatha.
There are 5,504 residents of Hiawatha and is the southernmost neighborhood in the Longfellow Community of Minnesota. It is bordered to the north by E. 40th Street and to the south by the Minnehaha off-leash dog park. To the east, the Mississippi River provides the neighborhood’s border and the western border is marked by Hiawatha Avenue.
Hiawatha Neighborhood Schools
The only public school in the neighborhood is the Hiawatha Community School’s Hiawatha Campus. It serves students in grades Pre-K through 2. For grades 3 through 5, the children will attend the Howe Campus, six blocks away.
