Located in Tangletown in Minneapolis’ Southwest community, Ramsey Middle School takes our spotlight this month. According to administrators, it is an academically challenging school that prides itself on its innovative teaching methods.
Between 2013 and 2014, Ramsey’s enrollment almost doubled. The school now serves nearly 400 students in grades 6 through 9 with 20 full-time teachers, giving it a student/teacher ratio of about 20:1
Ramsey offers both before and after-school programs. The early programs start at 7 a.m. and include shooting baskets in the gym, jewelry design and more. The after-school program offers a variety of classes.
Ramsey also has an iPad program, a media center and employs the principles of Positive Behavior Intervention and Support.
Ramsey offers athletic programs as well, including:

School ratings site SchoolDigger.com awards Ramsey with four stars out of a possible five and ranks it 83rd out of 519 middle schools in the state.
In 2015, 65.3 percent of Ramsey’s 8th graders met or exceeded the standard on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment-III (MCA-III) math exams. The district’s average was 43.6 while the state’s average was 57.8.
These students fared well on the reading portion of the exams as well, with 62.6 meeting or exceeding the standard, compared to only 42.1 percent of the district’s 8th graders and 56 percent of the state’s. Ramsey’s 8th graders are ready for high school!
