What to do to ring in the 2014 holidays in and around Minneapolis? We've put together this handy guide for you.
December 10 and December 12
The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will be rolling through Minnesota from December 9th – December 13th. Billed as “rolling fundraising event,” the LED-bedecked locomotive travels across the United States and Canada, raising money, gathering donated food and holding concerts in the boxcar.
Catch the train tomorrow, December 10th at the CP facility on Central Avenue in NE Minneapolis. It arrives at 8:30 p.m. and the concert runs from 8:45 until 9:30.
If you miss it, the next stop is in St. Paul at Union Depot. It arrives at 6:00 p.m. on December 12 and the concert begins at 6:30 and ends at 7:15.
Through December 14th
Disney on Ice is presenting “Worlds of Fantasy” from December 11th to the 14th at Xcel Energy Center. The kids will love the special appearances of Lightning McQueen, Mater, the Little Mermaid, Tinker Bell, the Disney Fairies, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the Toy Story gang.
What are the holidays without taking in a performance of The Nutcracker? Twin Cities Ballet will be performing the holiday classic in Burnsville at the Ames Center from December 12th to the 14th.
The Academy of Russian Ballet is also presenting The Nutcracker on December 12th through the 14th at Eden Prairie High School.
Bachman’s Idea House, on Lyndale Avenue got its annual transformation and you are cordially invited to check it out. You only have a few more days to do so – the last day of the tour is December 14.
The tours are 30 minutes and tickets are $5. Children 12 and under are admitted free. Get tickets by calling 612-861-7311.
Bring the kids to St. Paul for Santa’s Workshop at the Landmark Center. This event happens on December 14 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be entertainment, photos with Santa and the kids can visit the "Make It & Take It" craft tables to make gifts to give to their family and friends.
The Landmark Center is located at 75 5th St. in St. Paul.
Through December 20
The Minnesota Zoo has changed Saturdays to “Santa Saturdays” from now through the 20th of December. Visit the zoo from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for an encounter with the chubby guy. Don’t forget the camera! The Minnesota Zoo is located at 13000 Zoo Blvd. in Apple Valley.
Head to St. Louis Park on December 20 for the annual “Classic Christmas at the Shops at West End.” Enjoy a hockey shoot-out, free movies, visits with Santa Claus, live music and more.
