If you know what’s good for you then February 14, Valentine’s Day, will be the center of your plans for this February 2016. But that’s not all that’s happening in and around Minneapolis. Dig out the calendar and circle the dates for these events.

Celebrate Chinese New Year!

It’s the Year of the Monkey and you’re invited to help ring it in at Midtown Global Market on Friday, February 5. Experience the traditional lion dance, performed to chase away evil spirits. There will be stuff for the kids to do and lots more. This is one fun event. It happens from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at 920 E. Lake St. in Minneapolis.

Beer Dabblin’ in the Twin Cities

What would the St. Paul Winter Carnival be without the Beer Dabbler? Not as much fun, that’s for sure. So head over to our twin city to sample craft brews from more than 120 breweries, enjoy the live entertainment and hang out in the (heated) Coliseum for the meat and cheese showcase. Or, on second thought, start there and use the Beer Dabbler to wash it all down. Ah, sounds like an amazing afternoon. It’s happening at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on February 6. Learn more at beerdabbler.com.

Get Healthy

The Healthy Life Expo is all set for this Friday, February 6. This is the place to find “Nutrition, Fitness and Longevity,” all under one roof. Visit more than 200 exhibitors, enjoy speaker presentations and demonstrations and check out the Yoga Stage. Sample products and enter the hourly drawings.

It happens February 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Minneapolis Convention Center Ballroom, 1301 2nd Ave S in Minneapolis. Admission is $6 unless you bring a donation for the food shelf – then you get in free!

Dig out Mom’s Chili Recipe

Superbowl Sunday was made for chili and you can win a quick $300 if folks think yours is the best. Town Hall Brewery’s Chili Cook Off is just the place to show off that secret-ingredient stuff that Mom used to make. February 7 is the day. If you prefer to just sample the bowls of red, be there at 1 p.m. for all-you-can-eat, a pint of Town Hall beer and the chance to cast your vote.

If you’ll be cooking, register via email at stephens@townhallbrewery.com. Learn the details here.

Red Bull Crashed Ice is BACK!

On February 26 and 27, St. Paul is host to the Red Bull Crashed Ice season finale so expect huge crowds (more than 100,000 people) from across the globe. Known as one of the world’s “most breathtaking winter sports events,” it features skaters traveling at speeds of more than 30 miles per hour down a course that is more than one-third of a mile long. The course features gaps, jumps and hairpin turns and these crazies take it in groups of four, slammed shoulder-to-shoulder against one another. Witness the fierce competition and watch them crown the world champion at the Cathedral of St. Paul. Learn more online at redbullcrashedice.com.
