There are so many events happening this month it was challenging to narrow our choices to only five but we rose to the occasion and think our list is pretty good. Check out these events happening in August 2015 in the Twin Cities.
New Brighton Stockyard Days
It’s the week we wait all year for! Lots of food, loads of great music and an amazingly good time for all happens August 2nd to the 10th at Long Lake Regional Park. Stockyard Days events kick off with the Corral Open golf tourney. Then you can enjoy the softball tournament, kid’s parade, movie night, the medallion hunt, antique car run and more. Most Stockyard Days events require no admission charge but parking is $3. Find out more at stockyarddays.org.
Twin Cities Polish Festival
Celebrate Polish culture in Minneapolis and enjoy Polish food, music and art from August 7 until the 9th. Folks are encouraged to bring a blanket for your lawn seat on Old Main Street. Boogie Wonderland opens the festivities with your disco faves and Megitza is returning this year as well. Admission is free and the festival is open on Friday from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Learn more by visiting tcpolishfestival.org.
Unless you’re Irish
in which case you may want to attend The Irish Fair of Minnesota instead. Also taking place the 7th through the 9th, you can enjoy a Celtic marketplace, displays, Irish dogs, food and, of course, drinks (well, you knew that was coming, right?). Several local bands will be in attendance as well as others from across the globe. Irish dancers? They’ve got a tent for that! New this year is the Color Me Irish 5K Run but, have no fear, the Zero K Race is back by popular demand this year. The Irish Festival is being held at Harriet Island, across the river from Downtown St. Paul. You can find the schedule of events online at irishfair.com.
Minnesota State Fair
This is the biggie folks ― the State Fair with so much to do it’s doubtful one day is sufficient. A trip through the State Fair Gardens, a visit to the art and sculpture tour, the amazing attractions, food, animals and, of course, the midway are just the start of a fun day at the fair. August music headliners include the Foo Fighters on August 22 and Alan Jackson on the 30th. The fair runs from August 27 through September 7. You can find everything you need to know about the 2015 Minnesota State Fair by visiting mnstatefair.org.
2015 Minnesota Renaissance Festival
Now in its 45th season, you are invited to come on out and enjoy a weekend in Shakopee at the largest Renaissance Festival in the United States, from August 22 to October 4. With an expected attendance this year of at least 300,000, it’s sure to be loads of fun. Weekends are themed and the two this month are Highland Fling (August 22 and 23) and Discover the Riches, the 29th and 30th. The former will feature all things Scottish, including Highland games, Scottish dancers, a Scottish village and more. Discover the Riches brings you Middle Eastern music, a fairy festival, belly dance competition and more. Be sure to check Out n’ About in September’s Locale for an update on September’s festivities at the Renaissance Festival. Find out more at renaissancefest.com.
