Target Center, in case you’re new to the area, is Minneapolis’ multi-use arena and home of the Timberwolves. Target Field, located nearby is our baseball park, home of the Minnesota Twins. In 2011, ESPN named Target Field as number one on the continent for quality, fan-friendliness (hey, it’s Minnesota, of course we got that one!) and frequency of game-day promotions. By the way, we fell to number 9 last year.

The food at Target Field is an entirely different matter. Sure, a lot of it is tasty, but from $9.50 for a tot dish (covered in “generic cheese glop,” according to the Star Tribune’s food critic Rick Nelson) to Korean fried chicken sandwiches ($13), or $8.50 for a small burger, you’ll pay big bucks to eat and drink, at the game. Yay for those Minneapolis homeowners who decided to list their homes for sale last month! Sure, there aren’t a lot of new listings, but the number grew more than 5 percent over the previous month. Buyers have been begging for more inventory so even the slightest change is welcome.

So, despite the fact that there were more homes put on the Minneapolis real estate market last month than in the same time period last year, the inventory of available homes tumbled almost 28 percent. It’s getting close. . .that time of year when we can finally go skiing and snowboarding in the Twin Cities. We’re trying to be patient, but since it’s always on our minds we thought we’d treat our Twin Cities newcomers to a quick list of some local favorite snowboarding and skiing areas.

Hyland Hills Ski Area

Closest to home, Hyland Hills offers more than snowboarding and skiing near Minneapolis, they also offer snowshoeing and they have a SnowSports Academy where noobies can learn how to snowboard in Minneapolis.

Hyland closed early last Sunday with promises to blow some new snow before opening again this Saturday at 9 a.m. The best way to find out what’s going on there this early in the season is to follow them on Facebook.

This month, takes a look at one of the city’s newest schools, Webster Elementary, located in the St. Anthony East neighborhood. The school opened its doors this year as a K through 2 school but has plans to expand by adding a grade each year until it becomes a K through 5 school.

The new school’s principal is Ginger Kranz and she invites everyone interested in learning more about the school to schedule a meeting with her. The school is also working toward offering a pre-school program during the 2016-2017 school year.

It’s Holidazzle time at Loring Park! From now through December 20 you can enjoy the free ice skating, visits with Santa, live music, movies and loads of food. Holidazzle is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is free.
