It’s the first day back at work after the weekend and I don’t know about you, but I’m already looking forward to next weekend. It’ll be the first weekend in May which means it’s time again for the May Day Parade and Festival.

This is an event that’s been around for so long – 41 years this year – that it is woven into the fabric of the city’s culture. More than 50,000 spectators and participants turn out each year.

May Day Parade

Of course, the parade is the biggest draw of this month-long festival and it happens on Sunday, May 3rd. Organizers like to call it a “walking theatrical performance,” with each section of the parade organized by a different May Day staff artist. The two-story-tall puppets are a crowd pleaser.

The median sales price for a home in the City of Minneapolis is $218,500, which is an increase of 20 percent over this time last year. Since “median” indicates that roughly half of the homes were priced less than this figure and half were priced higher, it only stands to reason that there are many affordable homes in the city.

Two of Minneapolis’ most affordable communities are Camden and Near North – with lots to like about both.

Camden

If you had bought a house in Camden last year, you’d be sitting pretty right now as prices have increased more than 35 percent. Sellers were more apt to accept lower price offers as well, receiving only 90 percent of their original list price. This year, that statistic has increased to nearly 95 percent.

We hear it often: “Real estate is local,” but I’m always fascinated by just how local real estate really is. For instance, although we consider the Twin Cities our local area, when we look at the latest real estate market statistics, they vary widely from city-to-city- within the region. Some cities have better news than others, and Minneapolis is one of them.

Great News for Minneapolis Home Sellers

The news for homeowners who are thinking of selling their Minneapolis homes is mixed. First, the best news: the median home price has increased more than 20 percent over this time last year. It now sits at $218,500.

There’s a telltale sign in the numbers though that you should take heed of if you’re sitting on the sidelines waiting to sell. The
