Celebrate spring by taking the little ones to one of the various Easter egg hunts happening around the Twin Cities. Some of these are held outdoors, so dress the wee ones appropriately. Some are also bring-your-own-basket affairs, so check the fine print carefully. It would be disappointing to show up without something in which to hold their treasures.

When you fall in love with a home – and believe me, it’s easy to do – you may envision yourself living there forever. First-time buyers are particularly susceptible to this phenomenon.

Lives change, however, and if you don’t believe me, take a minute to think about who you were, where you were, just 5 to 10 years ago. You may have switched jobs or even careers, your family may have grown – or shrunk. Your neighborhood may no longer resemble the place you moved into a decade ago.

This isn’t to say you shouldn’t think about the future when you contemplate buying your first home, it’s merely  a suggestion to approach the process knowing this is your starter home and it’s one step closer to buying your forever home, down the line.

Minnesota’s graduation rates are up, from 79.8 to 81 percent over last year, but that’s not good enough for state officials. They set a goal for five years from now and they’re not sure they’ll reach it. The goal is to achieve a 90 percent graduation rate for the state, according to the Star Tribune’s Alejandra Matos and Jessica Lee.

The state’s Hispanic and black students have the lowest graduation rates in the country, so Department of Education officials are seeking ways to boost those rates.

Minneapolis Public Schools have seen its graduation rate rise 10 points in the past five years, to 58.7 percent.
