There are lots of little snippets of news from around Minneapolis this week – let’s take a look at some of them.

Beets and Brussels Sprouts Beat Bacon in Minneapolis

Zagat has released a recent restaurant trends survey and it turns out that bacon has worn out its welcome with Minneapolis diners. In fact, half of the respondents said that bacon was no longer on their food trends list.

So, what’s the number one dining trend for Minneapolis residents? Beets. Apparently we’re tied with San Francisco in our love for the red root. We also love Brussels sprouts.

Other findings from the survey include that nearly 60 percent of Minneapolins say they think twice about visiting a cash-only restaurant and a whopping 90 percent of us go online to read

Located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis on historic Hennepin Avenue, the Orpheum theatre is a reminder of a gentler and more civilized era. From the restored marquee sign out front to the plush red velvet seating inside, a visit to this theatre is an experience that should not be missed.

The Orpheum holds a variety of shows year round, ranging from off-Broadway productions and ballet to modern comedians like Amy Schumer and Jim Gaffigan.

Built in 1921 as the Hennepin, the theatre was designed to seat over 2500 people. This gorgeous building is an almost textbook example of the Roman architecturally influenced Beaux-Artistic style. The corner palisades and flat roof only hint at the gorgeous interior, however. The open lobby begins a

Loft living is all the rage in Minneapolis and for good reason. The floorplans are appealing and the decorating possibilities are endless. This week we’re taking a look at the Metropolitan Lofts. If you’re considering buying a condo in Minneapolis, here are five reasons you may want to look into this community.

5. The Building is Attractive

To an outsider, the Metropolitan Lofts may seem to have a bit of a split personality. Only about 10 years old, it looks like it’s been around forever. That’s purposeful, by the way. The developers built it so that it would fit in with other Mill District structures. They succeeded. It’s truly hard to tell that the building isn’t a conversion. The brick façade is particularly attractive. I don’t know about

DOG FANCY magazine’s editors have chosen the cities they think are the most dog-friendly and Minneapolis made the top five.

The magazine’s readers nominate the cities and then the editors do the research to learn which five American cities offer the best in dog-friendly accommodations and activities. They look at things such as the number of dog parks, dog-friendly businesses in the area, the number of veterinary specialists, rescue programs and more.

Austin, Texas ranked the highest, for its rescue and adoption efforts, its dozen off-leash dog parks, numerous dog-friendly trails and swimming spots.

The magazine’s editors say the runners up in the contest “came in a close second,” so perhaps Minneapolis isn’t really number 5, that’s just

What happens when a homeowner with an FHA-guaranteed loan stops making his house payments? After some time, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, of which FHA is a part, forecloses on the home, repossesses it and then re-sells it.

So, why am I telling you this? Because HUD homes represent an amazing value to those on tight budgets, such as first-time buyers.

How it Works

Purchasing a HUD home is a bit different than the standard buying process. First, you’ll need to find these HUD homes for sale in Minneapolis, which is easy, as they’re listed on HUD’s website.

Then, you’ll need a HUD-approved broker to show you the home – not every broker in the Twin Cities is affiliated with HUD, but the Kris Lindahl Team is.
